Where does your emotional intelligence rubber hit the road?

You have probably seen the headlines. Bold statements like: "Empathy emerges as #1 job skill!”

I know, we were surprised too.

Traits like self-awarenesscompassion and empathy are sky rocketing to the top of the list of what it takes to be a change maker - within companies, governments, non profits and movements.

Especially when you are dealing with issues of power.

Think about it.

Maybe you are a union representative negotiating a collective agreement with an employer on behalf of your members, or part of a social justice or environmental movement trying to engage government around contentious energy policy, or a member of a government agency trying to forge new and innovative ways of involving citizens in decision-making. Not to mention the work you might be doing within your work place, community organization or neighbourhood to create change.

And the list goes on…

Taking the time to examine how we understand our own power and that of others, how our histories affect our present, and how we can develop our own transformational use of power has never been more important in our ability to make change.
