In 2009 the community of Homer Alaska undertook a comprehensive community health needs assessment as part of its Mobilizing for Action through Planning & Partnerships (MAPP) process. Collaborative work on three community priorities was launched shortly afterward. As the Project’s Planning Team prepared for its 2nd Community Needs Assessment, they became aware of Collective Impact and were curious about the opportunities that Collective Impact offered to advance their community priorities .
On September 29th, 2014 the MAPP Planning Group hosted a workshop for 55 of Homer’s community leaders and another 20 visitors from the neighbouring Mat-Su Region of Alaska’s Southern Kenai Peninsula. The workshop offered participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Collective Impact and explore opportunities to incorporate it into their MAPP project with its emerging focus on strengthening family resilience.
